Zamp RZ-70F Graphic Helmet: Dual FIA 8859-2024 and Snell SA2025 Rating, and Who Needs It

Zamp RZ-70F Graphic Helmet: Dual FIA 8859-2024 and Snell SA2025 Rating, and Who Needs It

A dual-certified racing helmet is approved to both Snell SA2025 and FIA 8859-2024, so one helmet meets series that specify either standard. Before you buy, check that both standards and their years appear on the helmet's labels, and that the shield and shield lock are FIA-rated parts of the same certified system.

The Zamp RZ-70F Graphic is the dual-rated, factory-graphic member of Zamp's flagship RZ-70 line, available in Fast Racer's Zamp racing helmets collection. This guide covers what its FIA rating adds over a Snell-only helmet, how to verify it, what comes in the box, and whether it fits your racing.

What Dual FIA 8859-2024 and Snell SA2025 Certification Means

Dual certification means the helmet has passed two separate test programs: Snell SA2025 and FIA 8859-2024. According to Fast Racer's guide to racing helmets with FIA and Snell dual certification, Snell SA2025 is the standard most U.S. sanctioning bodies require, while FIA 8859-2024 governs most international competition.

On the RZ-70F Graphic, the FIA rating is more than a label. It depends on three parts working together:

  • FIA-compliant shield lock button. Zamp redesigned the lock to keep the shield in the locked-down position during a large impact. This mechanism is what lets the RZ-70F pass the newer FIA impact regulations, which the standard lock on Snell-only helmets is not built to meet.

  • FIA-rated Z-20 shield. The RZ-70F ships with a 3mm Z-20 series clear shield rated to FIA specification. In the video above, Zamp points out the FIA sticker on the lower-left corner of the shield.

  • Dual-certified shell. A composite and aramid fiber shell built to stay light while meeting the impact-absorption demands of both standards.

Dual-Certified Is Not One Thing: Check the Years

Two helmets can share a shell and still carry different ratings. The RZ-70S uses the same RZ-70 shell and 28 Series interior as the RZ-70F, but it is certified to Snell SA2025 only and uses Zamp's standard shield lock. The earlier RZ-70E Switch is also dual-rated, but to the previous generation of both standards: Snell SA2020 and FIA 8859-2015. The year on the label matters as much as the name of the standard.

How to Verify the FIA Rating Before You Buy

  1. Read the full standard names and years. The RZ-70F Graphic listing names "Snell SA2025 & FIA 8859-2024" in the product title.

  2. Check the homologation labels inside the helmet. Our guide shows where to find the Snell, FIA or SFI label in a motorsport helmet.

  3. Find the spring-loaded shield lock button at the bottom of the shield. You push it down to lift the shield open.

  4. Look for the FIA sticker on the shield, in the lower-left corner.

  5. Match the helmet to your rulebook. Fast Racer's team can answer FIA vs. Snell questions for your specific series before you order.

Zamp RZ-70F Graphic Features Explained

  • Ventilation: Z-Design internal channels route air through the shell and chin bar. In the video, Zamp points to four exhaust holes in the front and more venting below the shield, set up for open and closed cockpit asphalt racing.

  • Top-air ready: Zamp explains that removing four plugs on top exposes threads for a low-profile or round top-air attachment, and the attachment comes with the screws you need.

  • Interior: a removable, washable, fire-retardant 28 Series crown liner with color-matched cheek pads. Zamp adds that you can pair one cheek pad size with a different crown liner size for a custom fit.

  • Communication: built-in ear cups, ear pads in the chin strap, and chin bar EPS pre-cut for a microphone or drink tube. Zamp notes that both the standard and Elite speakers fit the ear cup. Fast Racer stocks the Zamp ear cup with speakers and the Zamp ear cup with Elite stereo speakers.

  • Head and neck restraint: M6 inserts come standard for HANS and other head and neck restraints. Read how a HANS device works if you are choosing one.

  • Tear-offs: built-in posts accept standard 12.125" banana-style tear-offs. Fast Racer recommends P208Z Z Optics tear-offs for the best fit.

  • Factory graphics: five colorways (Blue, Grey, Red, Orange and Green) let you stand out on the grid without a custom paint job.

Is the Zamp RZ-70F Graphic Right for You?

Start with your rulebook. The RZ-70F Graphic is the right call in some situations and more helmet than you need in others.

  • Choose the RZ-70F Graphic if your series requires FIA, you may race FIA-sanctioned events, or you want one helmet that covers both Snell and FIA rulebooks.

  • If you need a 3XL, Grey Graphic is the only RZ-70F Graphic colorway offered in 3X-Large.

  • If your series only requires Snell SA2025, the RZ-70S Graphic ($539.95) uses the same RZ-70 shell and graphic look without the FIA rating or FIA shield lock. Our RZ-70S Graphic guide covers what it includes.

  • If you want the FIA rating without graphics, the solid-color RZ-70F carries the same certification for $529.95.

  • If you race mostly dirt, the RZ-70F Graphic's venting is built for asphalt. A plug kit can close the front and rear holes for dirt use, but if dirt is your main discipline, compare Zamp's dirt-specific helmets in the Zamp racing helmets collection.

  • If you want other brands with the same dual rating, the dual-certification guide linked above covers Bell's Snell SA2025 and FIA 8859-2024 models.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Zamp helmets FIA approved?

Not all of them. Zamp builds both Snell-only and dual-rated helmets. The RZ-70F Graphic and solid RZ-70F carry FIA 8859-2024 and Snell SA2025. The RZ-70E Switch carries the previous generation, FIA 8859-2015 and Snell SA2020. Models such as the RZ-70S, RZ-57 and RZ-38 are Snell SA2025 only. Check the label inside the helmet for the standard and its year before you buy.

What is the difference between the Zamp RZ-70F and RZ-70S?

The RZ-70F is certified to both Snell SA2025 and FIA 8859-2024, while the RZ-70S carries Snell SA2025 only. To pass FIA testing, the RZ-70F adds a spring-loaded shield lock button that keeps the shield down during an impact, plus an FIA-rated Z-20 shield. Both belong to Zamp’s RZ-70 line, and the RZ-70F Graphic costs roughly $20* more than the RZ-70S Graphic.

Can you use the Zamp RZ-70F for dirt racing?

Zamp designed the RZ-70F for open and closed cockpit asphalt racing, and its heavy venting reflects that. According to Zamp, a plug kit closes the four front and six rear vent holes to make the helmet dirtproof. If dirt is your main discipline, a dirt-specific Zamp helmet is the better choice, since it is designed for dirt racing from the start.

Can you add top air to the Zamp RZ-70F Graphic?

Yes. Zamp says the RZ-70F is top-air friendly and accepts either a low-profile or a round top-air attachment. Remove the four plugs on top of the shell to expose the threads, then screw the attachment in with the four screws it comes with. Connect it to your pumper or forced-air system to feed air into the helmet.

Which tear-offs fit the Zamp RZ-70F Graphic?

The Zamp RZ-70F Graphic has built-in posts for standard 12.125-inch banana-style tear-offs, and Zamp recommends P208Z Z Optics tear-offs as the best fit. Its Z-20 shield uses tensioning tear-off posts, which adjust wider or narrower so a stack of tear-offs goes on and comes off more easily between sessions and races.

Is the Zamp RZ-70F ready for radio communication?

Yes. The 28 Series cheek pads come with pre-installed ear cups for one-way communication, and Zamp confirms both its standard and Elite speakers fit. The chin bar EPS is pre-cut for a microphone. For two-way communication, Zamp communication caps mount on both sides of the chin bar, giving extra room to tuck away cords. The caps are sold separately.
