Charles Leclerc was born in Monte Carlo, Monaco, and joined Ferrari's Driver Academy in 2016 after winning back-to-back GP3 and Formula 2 titles — becoming, in 2019, the first driver to complete the full path from Ferrari academy student to Ferrari race driver. His F1 debut came with Sauber in 2018; Ferrari signed him for 2019, and in just his second race he became the second-youngest pole-sitter in F1 history. That season he won the Belgian Grand Prix — Ferrari's youngest-ever race winner — followed a week later by a win at Monza that ended the team's nine-year drought at its home race.
Leclerc's closest title challenge came in 2022, when he finished runner-up to Max Verstappen with three wins and eleven podiums. In 2024, he delivered one of the most personal victories of his career, winning his home race at Monaco — the first Monégasque driver to do so in 93 years. That same year he signed a contract extension keeping him with Ferrari through 2028.
Off the track, Leclerc has spoken openly about the losses that shaped him: his father Hervé, who died in 2017, and his mentor and friend Jules Bianchi, who died in 2015. He's since become an active supporter of cancer research and water-safety education through the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation.
Paired with seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton since 2025, Leclerc remains, in his own words, still chasing the one result that's eluded him: a World Championship.
