Racing gloves are fire-resistant, not fireproof. They're made from flame-resistant materials such as Nomex and other aramid fibers that slow heat transfer, while keeping the grip and feel you need on the wheel. Ratings like SFI 3.3/5 and FIA 8856-2018 show that a glove meets fire-protection requirements.
SFI 3.3/5 is the SFI Foundation's rating for driver gloves and is used by most US series. FIA 8856-2018 is the international standard for FIA-sanctioned events. Some gloves carry both, such as the OMP ONE-S V2, so one pair can cover US and FIA racing. Check your series rulebook before you buy.
Racing gloves are fire-resistant and rated SFI or FIA, as car series require. Karting gloves focus on grip, wheel feel and abrasion resistance and usually aren't fire-rated. Some drivers wear racing gloves in karts, but karting gloves can't replace fire-rated gloves in a car. Shop karting gloves for kart racing.
Measure around your palm just below the knuckles, and from your wrist to the tip of your middle finger, then compare with the size chart on each product page. Racing gloves should fit snugly, with no loose material at the fingertips. If you're between sizes, choose the larger one.
