Snell SA2025

Set by:
The Snell Memorial Foundation, an independent U.S. nonprofit organization that develops and tests helmet safety standards.

What it means:
Snell's current standard for auto racing helmets, with strict requirements for impact protection, fire resistance, roll-bar impacts, visor performance, and HANS/FHR compatibility. SA2025 also introduces stricter impact requirements than the previous SA2020 standard.

Typically required for:
U.S. auto racing
, including club racing, track days, HPDE, time attack, and autocross. SA2025 rated helmets are also accepted by many U.S. karting organizations for adult karting.

Not intended for: Motorcycle use.

Always check your event or sanctioning body's current helmet requirements.

  • The Bell XD7 PRO is a Snell SA2025-certified racing helmet built for dirt-track and open-wheel environments, with high-speed stability, clear visibility, and rugged performance across dirt track, open wheel, and formula car racing. It is the next-generation successor to the Bell GTX3 Helmet.

  • The Bell XD7 PRO incorporates aerodynamic elements, including an integrated rear spoiler and front chin bar gurney, along with ventilation designed to minimize dust entry while maximizing air exchange.

  • Equipped with the latest Snell SA2025 safety certification, factory-installed FHR/HANS device anchors and the SmartLock Visor System, the Bell XD7 PRO offers protection, comfort, and functionality for racers.

  • Key features include:

    • Lightweight Composite Shell: This high-strength composite shell provides robust protection and reduced weight for performance in extreme conditions.

    • Venturi Airflow System: Rear-facing side chin bar vents and air extraction points create a venturi effect to promote air circulation while preventing dust, dirt, and debris entry.

    • Aggressive Aerodynamic Styling: Integrated front chin bar gurney (duckbill) and integrated rear spoiler optimize airflow, reduce drag, and improve helmet stability at high speeds.

    • Synthetic Rubber Gasket Seal: A hollow gasket seal around the eyeport blocks air, water, dirt, and debris, maintaining a clean and secure interior environment.

    • Advanced Multi-Density Liner: The multi-piece, high-impact absorbing liner provides energy absorption for both low- and high-velocity impacts.

    • Integrated Accessory Channels: Built-in channels in the face piece allow easy installation of drink tubes or radio microphone systems.

    • Comfort-Max FR Interior Fabric: Plush, flame-retardant grey fabric with multi-foam density and contoured cheek pads offers moisture-wicking and a professional fit.

    • SmartLock Visor System: This visor locking mechanism automatically secures when closed and allows one-handed unlocking with a central button, even while wearing gloves.

    • SE07 3mm DSAF Shield: The optical-grade injected double screen anti-fog (DSAF) visor ensures visibility and anti-fog performance in high-humidity conditions. Replacement and tinted versions: Bell SE07 3mm replacement shield.

    • Factory-Installed HANS Anchors: Factory-installed HANS / FHR anchors for integration with head and neck restraint systems.

  • Certification: meets the latest Snell SA2025 standard.

Questions about Bell XD7 PRO Racing Helmet - Snell SA2025

Q&A

45 answered questions

  • What's the difference between Snell SA2025 and FIA 8859-2024 certification?

    seo@fastracer.com

    • Staff Answer
Snell SA2025 is the current US-based standard for auto racing helmets — it carries higher impact-testing requirements than the previous SA2020 standard, closer alignment with FIA testing methods, and stays valid through 2035. FIA 8859-2024 is the international homologation standard many FIA-sanctioned series require in addition to (not instead of) a national standard like Snell. A helmet can carry Snell SA2025 alone, or both Snell SA2025 and FIA 8859-2024 together.

      seo@fastracer.com

  • What sizes does the Bell XD7 PRO come in?

    seo@fastracer.com

    • Staff Answer
The Bell XD7 PRO Dirt Track & Open Wheel Racing Helmet - Snell SA2025 is available in sizes 57, 58, 59, 60, 61, and 61+, covering head circumferences from 7 1/8 to 7 5/8+. No half sizes (like 57- or 59+) are offered. 61+ fits 0.5 cm larger than 61. Always consult the FAST RACERS size chart and measure carefully before ordering.

      seo@fastracer.com

  • What's included in the box?

    seo@fastracer.com

    • Staff Answer
Included in the box are the Bell XD7 Pro Helmet, a clear SE07 3mm DSAF Shield (factory-installed), the SmartLock Visor System (factory-installed), plastic tearoff posts (factory-installed), HANS / FHR anchors (factory-installed), a hex wrench key, a draw-string helmet bag, and a user manual.

      seo@fastracer.com

  • Can I use the XD7 ULTRA Carbon in both domestic and international racing events?

    seo@fastracer.com

    • Staff Answer
In most cases, yes — that's one of the practical advantages of dual certification. A helmet approved to both Snell SA2025 and FIA 8859-2024 is accepted across a wider range of sanctioning bodies than a Snell-only helmet. This gives the ULTRA more flexibility if you compete in multiple series or plan to race internationally. Always verify the current rulebook for your specific series before competing, as requirements can change.

      seo@fastracer.com

  • Are the Bell XD7 PRO and the Bell XD7 ULTRA Carbon compatible with a HANS or FHR device?

    seo@fastracer.com

    • Staff Answer
Yes. Both the Bell XD7 Pro and Bell XD7 Ultra Carbon come with factory-installed HANS/FHR anchors, allowing them to connect to a compatible frontal head restraint. The restraint, tether, harness, seat, and anchor setup must work together correctly.

      seo@fastracer.com

  • Why does the XD7 ULTRA generally cost more than the XD7 PRO?

    seo@fastracer.com

    • Staff Answer
The ULTRA’s higher price reflects two key upgrades over the standard XD7 PRO: a genuine carbon fiber shell rather than composite, and dual certifications—FIA8859 alongside Snell SA2025. Both enhancements incur real manufacturing and homologation costs, justifying the premium over the base model.

      seo@fastracer.com

  • Which helmet is better for standard dirt track racing

    seo@fastracer.com

    • Staff Answer
Both are designed for dirt track and open-wheel racing, sharing advanced ventilation and visor systems. If your series requires only Snell SA2025, the PRO offers full compliance at a lower price. For additional FIA8859-2024 approval, choose the ULTRA for broader certification and top-tier protection.

      seo@fastracer.com

  • Are the Bell XD7 PRO and the Bell XD7 ULTRA Carbon successors to the Bell GTX3?

    seo@fastracer.com

    • Staff Answer
Yes, both are. The Bell XD7 PRO is Bell's next-generation successor to the Bell GTX3; the Bell XD7 ULTRA Carbon is the successor to the Bell GTX3 Carbon. If you're comparing either helmet to your old GTX3, expect the same core platform with updated ventilation, visor, and certification.

      seo@fastracer.com

  • What safety certification does the Bell XD7 PRO have?

    seo@fastracer.com

    • Staff Answer
The Bell XD7 PRO Dirt Track & Open Wheel Racing Helmet is certified to Snell SA2025, the latest Snell Memorial Foundation standard for auto racing helmets. For FIA 8859-2024 compliance, consider the Bell XD7 ULTRA Carbon, as the PRO is Snell SA2025 only.

      seo@fastracer.com

  • What is the snell helmet expiration date?

    admin

    • As a general rule, Snell SA helmets are valid for 10 years from their certification date. For example, a Snell SA2025 helmet is good until December 31, 2035. When a new certification comes out, such as SA2030, those helmets are valid until December 31, 2040. Most racing organizations like SCCA, NASA, and NHRA follow this guideline. However, we always recommend checking your specific rulebook, as requirements may vary between different organizations or events.
