Snell SA2025

Set by:
The Snell Memorial Foundation, an independent U.S. nonprofit organization that develops and tests helmet safety standards.

What it means:
Snell's current standard for auto racing helmets, with strict requirements for impact protection, fire resistance, roll-bar impacts, visor performance, and HANS/FHR compatibility. SA2025 also introduces stricter impact requirements than the previous SA2020 standard.

Typically required for:
U.S. auto racing
, including club racing, track days, HPDE, time attack, and autocross. SA2025 rated helmets are also accepted by many U.S. karting organizations for adult karting.

Not intended for: Motorcycle use.

Always check your event or sanctioning body's current helmet requirements.

Questions about Zamp RZ-38 Dirt Track Racing Helmet - Snell SA2025

Q&A

24 answered questions

  • What is the snell helmet expiration date?

    admin

    • As a general rule, Snell SA helmets are valid for 10 years from their certification date. For example, a Snell SA2025 helmet is good until December 31, 2035. When a new certification comes out, such as SA2030, those helmets are valid until December 31, 2040. Most racing organizations like SCCA, NASA, and NHRA follow this guideline. However, we always recommend checking your specific rulebook, as requirements may vary between different organizations or events.

      admin

  • How long will my SA2020 helmet be good for?

    admin

    • Most racing organizations, such as SCCA, NASA, and NHRA, accept Snell SA helmets for 10 years from the homologation date, not the purchase or manufacture date. This means an SA2020 helmet is generally valid through December 31, 2030. However, certain series, like NHRA, may allow use for slightly longer or shorter periods depending on their rules. Always consult your current rulebook, as some organizations may require newer standards sooner than others.

      admin

  • Can you use a motorcycle helmet for car racing?

    admin

    • No. A motorcycle helmet should not be used as a car racing helmet because it does not meet the necessary fireproofing and impact resistance requirements, such as Snell SA2025 or FIA 8859-2024 standards, nor does it provide for head and neck restraint systems. Car racing helmets are specifically engineered for the unique hazards of motorsports, including fire resistance and impact protection in confined spaces. Additionally, drivers should select helmets tailored to their specific application; for instance, a Dirt Track helmet differs in construction and ventilation from an open wheel asphalt racing helmet. Proper selection ensures optimal safety and performance on the track.

  • Where are Zamp racing helmets made?

    Guest

    • The majority of Zamp Racing Helmets are manufactured in China, including popular models such as the Zamp RZ-57V Asphalt Performance Race Helmet and the Zamp RZ-38 Motorsports Racing Helmet. However, select models like the Zamp RZ-72, which features FIA8859 certification, are proudly made in Italy. Independent on the manufacturing location, Zamp Helmets are designed to meet high-level motorsport safety standards.

  • What's the difference between Snell SA2025 and FIA 8859-2024 certification?

    seo@fastracer.com

    • Staff Answer
Snell SA2025 is the current US-based standard for auto racing helmets — it carries higher impact-testing requirements than the previous SA2020 standard, closer alignment with FIA testing methods, and stays valid through 2035. FIA 8859-2024 is the international homologation standard many FIA-sanctioned series require in addition to (not instead of) a national standard like Snell. A helmet can carry Snell SA2025 alone, or both Snell SA2025 and FIA 8859-2024 together.

  • Where are Zamp helmets made?

    admin

    • Staff Answer
Most Zamp Racing Helmet models, such as the RZ-57V, RZ-38, RZ-67D, and various solid color and graphic versions, are manufactured in China. However, select FIA-approved and high-end models are made in Italy. All helmets are designed by the USA team in Meridian, Idaho.

  • Which helmets are ready to attach head and neck safety devices?

    Guest

    • First, you should look for helmets certified to Snell SA2020, Snell SA2025, and/or FIA8859-2024 standards, as these offer the latest in motorsport safety. Helmets with both SA2025 and FIA8859 certifications typically feature factory-installed Frontal Head Restraint (FHR) anchors, ensuring compatibility with HANS or other head and neck restraint systems. If FHR anchors are not factory-installed, the helmet will include built-in M6 inserts, allowing you to easily install the necessary FHR anchors for safe use. • Which Zamp helmet is best for auto racing?

    admin

    • Staff Answer
The best Zamp racing helmet depends on your budget and racing needs. The RZ-57V and RZ-38 are excellent entry-level choices for asphalt racers racing in open cockpits or closed cockpits. On the other hand, the carbon fiber RZ-66C provides reduced weight for serious competitors. However, if you are racing on dirt track, check out the excellent entry-level RZ-38 Dirt or the top-of-the-line RZ-67D Carbon, which are both designed specifically for dirt racing applications.

      admin

  • When will Snell SA2025 helmets be available to buy?

    admin

    • SA2025 helmets have been officially available on the market since October 1, 2025, when manufacturers started advertising and selling them. However, there’s often a lag before widespread availability. Some models might ship right away, while others might have a longer waiting time.
FAST RACER placed a massive pre-order with Bell Racing Helmet and expects to be one of the first dealers in the USA to have SA2025 helmets in stock.

      admin

  • What makes the new Zamp SA2025 helmets different?

    admin

    • Staff Answer
The newest Zamp helmets feature redesigned shells, updated ventilation systems, improved comfort liners, and the latest Snell SA2025 certification. Several models were completely refreshed rather than simply updated, giving racers improved visibility, better airflow, and a more refined overall fit. The biggest difference compared to other brands is the price tag. You will get similar features and head protection at a fraction of the price.
