Lando Norris has done things the long way — the same team, from his first Grand Prix to his first World Championship. He signed with McLaren's junior programme as a teenager after becoming the youngest karting world champion in history in 2014, worked through the junior single-seater ranks with rookie-season titles almost everywhere he went, and made his F1 debut in 2019 alongside Carlos Sainz. He's never driven for anyone else.
The wait for a first win came in his 110th Grand Prix — Miami, 2024 — and once it arrived, it didn't stop. Three more wins that season, and a title-deciding victory at the Abu Dhabi finale that gave McLaren their first Constructors' Championship in 26 years, set up a genuine title assault in 2025. What followed was a season-long battle with teammate Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen that swung repeatedly — Norris trailed by 34 points at the season's midpoint, clawed it back through the autumn with wins in Mexico City and São Paulo, survived a shock disqualification in Las Vegas and a costly strategy call in Qatar, and sealed the title by just two points over Verstappen at the Abu Dhabi finale. It made him Formula 1's 35th World Champion, the 11th British champion, and McLaren's first since Lewis Hamilton in 2008.
Off track, Norris has built one of the most recognizable personal brands in the sport — active on Twitch and YouTube, co-founder of the lifestyle and gaming brand Quadrant, known as much for his humor and relatability as his driving. But it's the number on top of his helmet that tells the real story now: after six seasons carrying his signature 4 — chosen because it replaces the "a" in his own name, L4NDO — 2026 marks the first time he'll run as Formula 1's reigning World Champion, with the number 1 to prove it.
