Important Factors to Consider When Buying a Karting Suit

The requirements of a karting suit are slightly different than that of an auto racing one. Here are some important factors to consider when buying a karting suit.

If you harbor aspirations of making it as a professional race car driver, karting serves as a great entryway into motorsport. Not only is it much safer and cheaper than racing cars, it’s also great fun. If you’re thinking of delving into the world of karting, it’s likely that you’ve visited a professional kart circuit for some arrive-and-drive action. If that is the case, you’ll have been provided with a helmet and safety overalls that can best be described as those of a glorified mechanic.

Now, if you want to become a serious kart racer, you’ll need better protection than that. You’ll need overalls that are purpose-built for the job. Just like a professional car racing suit, the primary purpose of a kart suit is to protect the driver. However, an auto racing suit is primarily designed to protect the driver from fire; the requirements of a karting suit are slightly different.

This blog post will list and discuss some important factors to consider when buying a karting suit. Let’s begin.

Design and Comfort

Since the driver is much more exposed in a kart, and also because there aren’t as many safety harnesses in a kart than there are in a race car, karting suits are designed to be abrasion-resistant. This means the materials they’re made of are much tougher than those used in their race car equivalents. However, while karting suits are manufactured to provide optimal protection, they’re designed for lightness as well. The lighter the suit, the better the comfort to the driver. It will help them to save energy and focus on the racing.

Also, kart drivers move about much more than race car drivers. Consequently, the driver’s freedom of movement and comfort are an important factor in kart suit construction. That’s why in many kart suits, stretch panels are incorporated in key areas. This allows for better flexibility.

Sizing

Just like fireproof auto racing overalls, karting suits are sized continentally, with sizes ranging between 40 and 62. However, some brands offer karting suits in conventional sizes, i.e. small, medium, and large.

It’s also worth noting that dimensions of same-sized racing suits can vary if they’re from different brands. For instance, a size 52 in an OMP kart suit will be a bit roomier than the same-sized Alpinestars kart suit.

Here at Fast Racer, we offer racing kart suit online, racing fire suits and overalls crafted by some of the leading brands in the sports, namely omp race suits online and alpinestars suit. Check out our collection.
