  • Being the dominant helmet on the F-1 grid, winning an IRL Championship, and protecting the heads of NASCAR heroes like Gordon, Burton, and Montoya, has put Arai on the receiving end of an abundance of world-class racing-helmet input. And the SK-6 gets the benefits of this input.

  • The Arai SK-6 is a karting specific helmet that uses the same, highly developed and immensely strong shell as the GP-6S race helmet with Complex Laminate Construction for light weight.

  • Its strength allowed Arai to give the SK-6 an extremely soft EPS liner for better comfort and impact energy management.

  • If you’re serious about taking your karting to the next level, choose the helmet that’s already there.

  • Homologation: New Snell SA2020 approved.

  • Based On The GP-6S Race Helmet.

  • Lightweight: has Complex Laminate Construction for light weight.

  • Positive shield lock mechanism provides Solid latching, while allowing normal operation of the shield. Designed to be an integral component of the shield system and function, not just an add-on afterthought. The simplicity of the function masks the complexity of the design. A feature taken directly from the new GP-6PED.

  • Wider eye port for increased peripheral field of view.

  • New "Removable/Replaceable" cheek pad design, allows for custom fitting with optional thicknesses (15mm, 20mm, 25mm, 30mm). Cheek pad covers are also removable to allow for easier and more thorough cleaning.

  • New shield pivot hardware improves aerodynamics. Type "6" 3mm shield.

  • Larger intake vent toggles for easier operation. Large rear vents for improved ventilation. Features taken directly from the new GP-6PED.

  • Newly sculpted chin bar and ridge along lower edge of shell to improve structural integrity. Provides a stronger shell near the opening where it is needed as well as lowers the Center of Gravity. Rise in shell above the shoulders for added clearance.

  • Available in White.

  • Homologation: New Snell SA2020 approved.

  • Not flame retardant.

Questions about Arai SK-6 K2020 Karting Helmet

Q&A

6 answered questions

  • What is the snell helmet expiration date?

    admin

    • As a general rule, Snell SA helmets are valid for 10 years from their certification date. For example, a Snell SA2025 helmet is good until December 31, 2035. When a new certification comes out, such as SA2030, those helmets are valid until December 31, 2040. Most racing organizations like SCCA, NASA, and NHRA follow this guideline. However, we always recommend checking your specific rulebook, as requirements may vary between different organizations or events.

  • How long will my SA2020 helmet be good for?

    admin

    • Most racing organizations, such as SCCA, NASA, and NHRA, accept Snell SA helmets for 10 years from the homologation date, not the purchase or manufacture date. This means an SA2020 helmet is generally valid through December 31, 2030. However, certain series, like NHRA, may allow use for slightly longer or shorter periods depending on their rules. Always consult your current rulebook, as some organizations may require newer standards sooner than others.

  • Can you use a motorcycle helmet for car racing?

    admin

    • No. A motorcycle helmet should not be used as a car racing helmet because it does not meet the necessary fireproofing and impact resistance requirements, such as Snell SA2025 or FIA 8859-2024 standards, nor does it provide for head and neck restraint systems. Car racing helmets are specifically engineered for the unique hazards of motorsports, including fire resistance and impact protection in confined spaces. Additionally, drivers should select helmets tailored to their specific application; for instance, a Dirt Track helmet differs in construction and ventilation from an open wheel asphalt racing helmet. Proper selection ensures optimal safety and performance on the track.

  • What helmet certification do I need to race karts in the US?

    admin

    • Staff Answer
Most major U.S. karting leagues require a current Snell rating — K2020, K2025, SA2020, or SA2025 — or an FIA 8859/8860 rating, with full-face coverage; a basic DOT-only helmet typically isn't accepted for sanctioned racing. Exact requirements differ by league and can change from season to season, so always confirm against your specific series before buying. We break down exactly what SKUSA, USPKS, WKA, and AKRA each require for 2026 in our full karting safety gear guide.

      admin

  • Is the same helmet legal for SKUSA, USPKS, WKA, and AKRA?

    admin

    • Staff Answer
In most cases, yes — a helmet meeting current Snell (K2020/K2025 or SA2020/SA2025) or FIA (8859/8860) standards satisfies all four major U.S. karting leagues, since their core safety requirements overlap closely. That said, each league maintains its own accepted list and update schedule, so a helmet cleared for one series isn't automatically guaranteed for another without checking. See our official 2026 league-by-league breakdown for the full comparison, including any age-class exceptions.
