About Carlos Sainz

Carlos Sainz has spent his career filling other legends' seats, and making them his own. He replaced his childhood hero Fernando Alonso at McLaren in 2019, then stepped into Sebastian Vettel's old seat at Ferrari two years later. Both moves came with real pressure. Sainz answered it with results.

Racing runs in the family. His father, also named Carlos Sainz, is a two-time World Rally Champion, and the calm, instinctive style Sainz brings to F1 traces back to those roots. He started karting at ten, worked his way through the junior single-seater ranks with wins at nearly every level, and reached Formula 1 with Toro Rosso in 2015, partnered with Max Verstappen.

His breakthrough years came at McLaren, where he took his first podium at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix and followed it with a runner-up finish at Monza in 2020. But it was at Ferrari, from 2021 to 2024, that he became a race winner. His first victory came at the 2022 British Grand Prix, and he added three more, including a dominant Mexico City win in 2024 that came just weeks after an appendectomy.

Sainz moved to Williams for 2025, partnering Alex Albon in a rebuilding team. He delivered immediately, taking Williams to the podium in Baku, their first full-race podium since 2017, and adding two more top-three finishes before the season closed.
