It depends. There is a number of options available to suit every condition (rain, sunlight intensity levels, night racing, etc. Also, it depends if you are racing in an open cockpit or closed cockpit vehicle. In general:
- Clear SE07 visors: default when buying a helmet. Give you optimum visibility in low light levels and wet conditions.
- Smoke SE07 visors: ideal for middle of the day racing and semi to low-level light.
- Mirrored SE07 visor and irridium shields: they are the coolest in terms of aesthetics, with almost all F1 drivers wearing those. They do require more maintenance, though, as they get scratched easily. They would not be recommended when racing at night.
- Amber shields: they are the best when racing at night.
